This magical country has electrifying elements of culture and tradition unique within Asia. Located right between Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia is a kingdom and ‘successor state’ of the Hindu and Buddhist Khmer Empire and is a site of immense historical and cultural wealth. The famous Mekong River also known as ‘the great river’ dominates the land.
The fierce capital city Phnom Penh is a centre of politics and intellectuals full of charisma and charm. The kingdom is highly spiritual, its spirituality defined by the beautiful temples of Angkor Wat. The country is characteristically controversial, with a sad past and an uncertain future making it a highly intoxicating and memorable place to visit. The cuisine marvelous yet subtle, the temples magnificent and the jungles wild yet even less explored.
Whether it be encountering the biggest religious building in the world in Angkor Wat, soaking up the long lost eras in the bamboo train the norry in Battambang, exploring the jungles and waterfalls in the Joh Kong Conservation Corridor, enjoying the museums and riverside of Phnom Penh, also known as ‘the pearl of Asia,’ boating down to find the freshwater dolphins in Kratie, exploring the caves and pagodas in Kampot, wandering around the Bokor National Park, Cambodia has all the elements of Southeast Asia packed into one marvelously rich country.
