Trichy or Tiruchi or Tiruchirappalli, situated on the banks of
the river Cauvery lies in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Trichy has a rich cultural heritage. A bustling commercial centre, Trichy is renowned for its khadi industries, diamonds, cigars, handloom cloth and glass bangles. Trichy is a city known for its educational institutions, industries, and temples.
It was a citadel of the early Cholas which later fell to the Pallavas. Trichy
is a fine blend of tradition and modernity built around the Rock Fort. Apart from the Fort, there are several Churches, Colleges and Missions dating back to the 1760s. The town and its fort, now in Trichy were built by the Nayaks of Madurai. This city has given great Tamil scholars whose contributions to the Tamil literature have been very significant.
The most popular tourist destinations in Trichy are Rock Fort temple, Gangaikondan Cholapuram, Sri Ranganathaswami temple and Avur. Trichy is also known for its Float Festival. The Viralimalai sanctuary, situated at a distance of about 30 km from Pudukkottai. The Murugan temple is also an important tourist site. The Kudumianmalai temple is another tourist spot.

The Rock Fort :
|
|
It is 272ft above the city on the banks of the river Cauvery. The rock cut into 437 steps, leads to the temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vinayaka
(the mythical half-man, half-bird Garuda who is Vishnu's Vehicle, famous in the Epic Mahabharata). Along the way to temple there are landings and shrines.

The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple :
|
|
This temple is at Sri Rangam Island, in the middle of the Cauvery river. This temple was built by various dynasties including the cheras, Pandyas,Cholas, Hoysalas and the Vijayanagar Empire between 13th and 18th centuries.

Sri Jambukeswara Temple :
|
|
This temple is situated about 2.5 km east of the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. It has an interior with a large central court, an excellent example of the Dravidian architecture of A D 1600. The rampant dragons, elaborate foliated brackets and royal Nayak portraits are incorporated to its courtyards pillars.

Thiruvanaikkaval:

It is the another shrine to Shiva, 6 Km east of Srirangam, named for a legendary elephant that worshipped the linga. It has five walls and seven gopurams with a finest Dravidian architecture work.

Woraiyur :
|
|
A part from its historical importance of having been the capital of the Chola dynasty, Woraiyur in Trichy is also famous for its handmade cigars and handloom sarees. The handmade cigars of Woraiyur were said to be famous overseas, so much so that even Winston Churchill is said to have relished them though he remained loyal to the Cuban cigars.

Samayapuram Mariamma :

Samayapuram, lying at a distance of 11 km from Trichy in Lalgudi taluk, is famous for the shrine of Goddess Mariamman. It has a rich legendary and historical background.

Kailasamundaiyar Temple:
|

It is located amidst lush green paddyfields and sylvan surrounding on the northern banks of the Uyyakondan channel in a sleepy hamlet named Cholamadevi near Thiruverumbur, 12 km away from Trichy City. For a trained eye, the history of this dilapidated temple wouldn't go unnoticed.

Viralimalai Sanctuary :

Viralimalai is a small town located about 30 km from Tiruchirappalli and 40 km from Pudukkottai. It is famous for its Murugan temple and the Peacock Park. The town is blessed with a large number of wild peacocks, which roam around the Murugan temple.

Gangaikondan Cholapuram :
|
|
Gangaikonda Cholapuram is located in Udayarpalayam Taluk (also spelt as Taluka) of Perambalur district, at a distance of 100-km from Trichy. Rajendra I, a Chola ruler established Gangaikonda Cholapuram as his capital city and built a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Apart from the gigantic Nandi, there are some eye-catching sculptures including a dancing Ganesha, a lion-headed well and an amazing piece depicting Rajendra being crowned by Lord Shiva and Parvati.

In Kanchipuram visiting Ekambareshwar Temple, Kailashnath Temple, Kamakshi Temple, the Vaikunthaperumal Temple, all built in the 7th and 8th centuries. Meet & experience the local homes of the weavers and watch them create magic out of silk thread into saris. Night stay in Kanchipuram hotel.

Day 03 : Kanchipuram - Trichy

After leisurely breakfast in hotel drive to Trichy. Afternoon proceed on a half Day city tour of Trichy visiting famous Rock Fort Temple. Night stay in Trichy hotel.

After leisurely breakfast in hotel drive to Tanjore. Later visit Thanjavur Palace, the Brihadishwara Temple and Fort. Night stay in Tanjore hotel.

Day 05 : Tanjore - Trichy - Chennai - Departure

Breakfast in hotel, after relaxed breakfast drive to Trichy to board the flight to Chennai to board the flight for onward journey or way back home.
